World Largest and Heaviest Gold Coin

A few days ago, the biggest and heaviest gold coin in the world has been unveiled by the Perth Mint in Australia.

World's HEAVIEST and LARGEST GOLD coin unveiled by Perth Mint CEO Ed Harbuz

The giant coin:

  • Weighs more than one tonne (1,000 kg) and is worth A$53.5 million (USD55m).
  • This massive coin weighs some 2,231lb and is 99.99 per cent pure gold.
  • It is 31 inches (80cm) wide and is more than 4.7 inches (12cm) thick.
  • Embossed on one side with a leaping kangaroo and on the other with the profile of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II,
  • It is Australian legal tender and has a denomination of 1 million AU dollars ($1.05 million) – well below its gold value.
  • The Perth Mint produced it in time for the Queen’s visit to the city in Western Australia for the Commonwealth heads of government meeting.

According to the CEO of Perth Mint Ed Harbuz:-

  • It took the historic mint some 18 months to produce the golden disc which will now go on public exhibition.
  • the giant coin is a magnificent Australian icon symbolizing one of the Perth Mint’s most extraordinary accomplishments in its 112 years of history.

Prior to the unveiling of this massive Australian gold coin, the largest coin in the world was only 100 kilograms and of 99.99 purity manufactured by Canadian Royal mint.
