Malaysia Numismatic Society Auction no 144 held at Muzium Negara on 27 th June 2010 (Part 1 of 2)

Yesterday, on Sunday, I was at the MNS’s auction no 144 held at Muzium Negara, Jalan Petalawati 50480 Kuala Lumpur

For those who are unfamiliar, we have the usual procedures for the auction:

  • Members to register their names before auction
  • Auction normally commences at 10 am
  • Viewing of lots commence at 9.30 am. Note that a bid number be alloted to those who have registered and are required to us the number for bidding
  • At the end of the auction, invoices will be issued to successful bidders and payment to be made to the Treasurer before taking possession of the items successfully bidded.
  • Mail bids are accepted by the Society and the Secretary will act on half. All bids must reach the Society 5 days before the auction and the words ” MAIL BIDS” must be clearly written on the envelope. In the event of two or more identical bids received, the earliest postmark has priority.
  • Members are not allowed to bid below the reserve price.
  • { see more at the website of Malaysia Numismatic Society’s website re: application form,activities,history,objectives}

General observations of this auction:

There were about 60 people ( about 10 dealers with bourse tables selling coins and banknotes), some come to buy from them and majority of the people to attend the auction to bid.

Incidentally,  I was very happy to note that there were a few young boys/teenagers who were also attending the bidding section. Never too young to learn about coin collecting- it helps youngsters to stay away from unwanted influences,helps in future investment and provide fun and pleasure watching your coin collection grow in size and in value.

In the very past, I have attended such coin auctions held by MNS. Compared to the past and present, I felt that presently,there were lot of people getting more interested in coin and banknote collecting even though prices have increaed leaps and bounds { see article on the reasons for the prices of coins and banknotes to increase in value
