The 1847 Gothic Crown Of Queen Victoria is considered to be one of the world’s most beautiful issues. In fact, crowns of Queen Victoria (1837-1901) were made in several styles. Those produced in 1839,1844,1845 and the first part of 1847 portray the Queen as a lovely young girl. Following an 1846 pattern coinage, approximately 8,000 of a new Victorian crown design were released in 1847 called the Gothic Crown, as the piece has Gothic-style letters and ornamentation and is classic in its appearance. In 1853, an additional 500 pieces which bore the 1853 date were made for use in Proof sets.
