Below is the 10 dollars dated 1.3.1961 Malaya and British Borneo banknote. On the front, we have a farmer and a buffalo Ploughing a Padi field with tiger’s head watermark. The banknote is signed by Tun Tan Siew Sin, Financial Chairman. The banknote is engraved and printed by Thomas De La Rue.Ltd. Size:134 x79mm:
This banknote is quite popular amongst the local Malays for rituals / ceremonies to bring in lucky no’s luck/wealth. As a result, this note is getting more scarce.
If you looked at the ebay and price catalogue they would normally mentioned about whether it is :
(a) Small Serial No. “A”
(b) Large Serial No. “A”
(c) Large Serial No. “B”
Why is this so.? Generally, there is special pricing for the different serial numbers wherein the small serial A is relatively cheaper than the large A and of the three varieties,the most expensive of the three serial number is the large serial no “B”.
Actually to differentiate the aforesaid three different varieties, we should look at their serial no namely the Small A refers to range from A/1 to A/80 ; Large A from the range of A/81 to A/99 and Large B from B/1 to B/6.
