This is the first copper coin issued in Brunei in 1887(1304 Hijra) with the denomination of 1 Cent. It was struck at the mint of Ralph Heaton and Sons, Birmingham ( after 1897 known as the Mint, Birmingham). This 1 cent copper coin is also called Duit Bintang’ or Star coin. This coin was taken out of circulation with the introduction of the Straits Settlements currency.

Obverse: A five pointed star within a radially pointed circle, around which is the Jawi inscription “Belanja Perentah Brunei Satu Sen sant 1304″(Financial Adminstration Brunei One Cent year 1304A.H.=1887)
